Seed Saving and Organic Heirloom Produce
Enkidu
Enkidu is located about 5 miles south of Knoxville, Illinois. We practice no-till, organic, companion gardening and use raised beds, green rows, and sheet mulching to keep weeds down. We often experiment with different plants and plant a variety of heirlooms. Our main production garden always has 100+ heirloom tomatoes as well as sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots, radishes, peppers, greens, okra, eggplants, corn, beans, squash, and fruit bushes. | The farm is surrounded by timber and farmland. We have some remnant prairies and woodlands on our land and several native gardens including a shaded woodland garden and a monarch waystation. We have several native plants including goldenrod, kidney-leaved buttercups, common milkweed, field horsetail, stinging nettle, bloodroot, cutleaf toothwort, maidenhair fern, bedstraw, phlox, geranium, jack-in-the-pulpit, mayapple, black snake root, wild carrot, prairie fleabane, blackberries, and elm trees. |
